I almost never buy PC versions of games (even though I have a Mac Pro with Windows 7 installed via Boot Camp), both to support my preferred platform (Mac OS X) and because its just so much more convenient. Here are my iMac specs: mid-2007 24' model, 2.4GHz C2D, Radeon HD 2600 Pro (256MB), 4GB RAM. OTOH, I still feel some loyalty to the Mac gaming scene, and I would like to support it if possible. Even though there's a Mac port, I've got Windows installed now, and I'm guessing that the Windows version would have better performance on the same hardware (see below). I had assumed that there would be no Mac port, so I bought Windows 7 & installed it on a bootcamp partition on my iMac, specifically so I could play this game. That said, I'm torn: should I buy the Mac or PC version? (I don't fancy playing RPGs on a console). Its great news that a high-profile game like this has been ported, especially so soon after the PC/console release. The Mac version is 1.01, which since I'm running a dagger wielding rogue is noticeable.Īfter I get some play in I'll report on how well it runs. I don't have all of my unlocked Specializations that I did have, but I'm not sure how that actually worked when I moved my stuff over from my desktop rig to the laptop on XP. Those folders don't exist on the Mac side. It would crash when I tried to make a new character, but that was fixed by removing the Pre-Release Characters and News folders. I have a few mods that were installed by just putting them in the override folder and they all seem to work fine. Some of the items were not authorized, but they all were after I logged in, including Warden's Keep. I fired up the game and there was my entire list of PC DLC, including a user mod. I then copied my entire Dragon Age folder from My Documents on the PC side. I logged in which went fine, and then the DLC was ready to go. The two DLC items showed up as unauthorized. I fired the game up and started a character so the user folders would get created. The install went smoothly, I bought the standard version so there were two pieces of DLC that installed without a problem. So I decided to give the Mac version a shot. I'm at my wife's mother's for Christmas and I can't find my DA DVD in all of the chaos. Dragon Age runs fine on the MBP with the Graphics Detail set to High and Graphics Textures set to High, AA set to 0.

When I game away from home I run XP on a 2.6 GHz MBP with a 512 MB 8600GT card.
